DEAN HELLER began teaching at St. Joseph's School of Music in 1994 and has more than 20 years of experience helping trumpet students learn to better express themselves as musicians. A focus on strong fundamentals and on instilling an understanding of how to practice effectively are at the core of his approach. His students have successfully auditioned for and performed with Minnesota Youth Symphonies, Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, and Minnesota All-State groups as well as received music scholarships at several colleges and universities. Heller received his Bachelor of Music degree in Education and Trumpet Performance from the Crane School of Music and his Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Minnesota. An active performer, he is principal trumpet with the Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis and has performed with the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, Neoteric Chamber Winds, Exultate Choir and Chamber Orchestra, and Compass Rose Brass Ensemble.
